The bridge is built of Ardclach granite, which is a red porphyrite. It has a semi-circular span of 46 feet, with a rise of 21 feet; but what makes it chiefly remarkable is the rake of the road, and the height above the water of 40 feet to the keystone. On the north side is a small flood arch high on the bank but not high enough to save it from complete immersion during the great flood of 1829 when the waters came within 3 feet of the keystone. [1]
