Comments :
It was a four span (73, 95, 95, 76 feet) segment ally arched, sandstone bridge. It had dressed stone voussoirs, a string course, handsome oculi over the side piers and a column on the central one. After the 1829 flood two fallen arches where replaced 1852 by the three rib cast iron arch you now see. This is the remarkable size of 185 feet. There is a square lattice in the spandrels, which has been strengthened with steel cross bracing; and a footpath has been hung off the railing. [1]
